Frequently Asked Questions – 1-on-1 Coaching
Answers: Melissa Raffoni
1. There are lots of CEO coaches on the market today. What type of coach are you?
» I am a general business and CEO effectiveness coach. This means that
I help CEOs clarify company goals, build tools and the elements that
are needed to execute on goals. I also provide CEOs with the discipline
to ensure that they follow through on those goals. I ask good questions
and offer some opinions along the way.
» In addition, I provide CEOs with feedback on their performance as a
CEO as compared to other CEOs in similar sized companies, which allows
for benchmarking of individual performance.
» I am not a psychologist or a behavioral coach.
2. What can I expect from a session with you?
» The CEO can expect to be locked in a room, asked a lot of questions,
be driven to some decisions, have various deliverables documented, and
at a minimum be provided with a CEO tracking sheet to help him or her
stay on track.
3. What type of CEOs benefit from your sessions?
» There really isn’t one type of CEO that benefits from the sessions.
Some examples include CEOs without a board, those with a lower level
management team (and as a result are seeking some level of peer
advice), or those that are not able to join the peer group program for
some reason.
4. Can I bring other members of my team into a session?
» Certainly. If you decide to try and implement some sort of
deliverable (ie, process or tool), CEOs should definitely pull in
members of their management team to participate.
5. How do other members of the organization perceive you coming to see the CEO?
» Funny enough, most of them get a kick out of it. They respect that
the CEO has chosen to bring in his or her own “boss” to help with
remaining focused. I am asked my opinion in times of stalemate, and
team players perceive that I am fair and only driven by the agenda of
improving the performance of the company.
6. How long are the sessions?
» In the beginning, I require full day sessions. Over time we can discuss other alternatives.
